A five star hotel usually has a great swimming pool, a wonderful spa, and great restaurants. These great hotels mean efficiency and service to travelers wherever they go throughout the world. Take a moment to draft what you want to capture on film, this may look like a silly thing to do, but you�ll be surprised at how many moments are missed and time is wasted because there is not a clear objective while capturing the video. You can start with a simple list you can develop further: -Family having fun. -Maybe a picture with the dolphins. -They say there are some rare birds so I�d like to take some shots of those. -My destination�s main attraction (Is it a giant rock, a sunset surfers at the beach) -Funny moments -The hotel -The places we visit. Ok, now you have to outline of your storyboard, now you can develop each so that the travel destination you pick is recognizable and enjoyable. If you want to have some clips of your family having fun for example you must be ready when they are playing a game or when you just gave them a gift, so all the shots of them unpacking and dizzy in the car are left out. If you want to show the animals that are at your destination you must plan ahead, many breeds do not stay all year round, from whales to birds, they are seasonal. The local boat rental might say there is a chance, after all, he knows you won�t get on that boat if he says you�ll get back empty handed, so do the research previously. It would also be a good idea to know a little about the species you are filming sharks and dolphins can get confused so don�t get little Luige too quickly into the water. This will also help you to know where the animals are located and you won�t be caught with your guard down. Some attractions are truly magnificent, unfortunately most are FAR away, sometimes it takes a two hour trip or more just to get there, so find out about this before you drag everybody to some god forsaken place, if it�s not that important for the rest of the crew you can always buy a nice postcard. Funny moments are a true treasure but you just cant hold the camcorder all day for something funny to happen so just keep an eye on everybody, unfamiliar objects like a new surfboard, boys near animals and guys showing off are great elements for funny things to happen, if you spot it, just start rolling. If that fails, you can always help by throwing a banana peel. Some of the places are needed to show the location where you are taking the film, in the film industry there are professional scouts that look at the scenery and make an inventory to show back home, then a wealthy producer says �oh, this is the perfect hotel lobby for my movie� and they have a location. Caps on your microphones will be necessary if the place where you go is very windy, otherwise all you will pick up is the sound of the wind swooshing. Some other things to consider is the objects you are going to be filming, do you want to capture the distant mountains and breathtaking scenery, or are in need for close ups to capture the full beauty of the Las Vegas dancers? For the first you will need wide shots so the natural spectacle can be appreciated. On the second example you will do much better with a powerful lens that can zoom in on your subjects. Special locations require specific gear, many hikers like filming animals; a directional microphone might be a good idea along with a camcorder that has a powerful zoom (you can�t get too close to animals without startling them), even night view could be of good here. In some countries like India, the monsoon season brings heavy rain; waterproof cases might save your camera from being completely soaked. Others like Africa are so dusty that if the electrical equipment is not covered or tightly wrapped sand will introduce into it and could make it useless. Other travel destinations might present different challenges, from busses that jump uncontrollably to helicopters who offer great views of the land bellow but ruin any sound you want to capture. Prepare well and you will be able to enjoy your vacations all over once you have made the video and view it again.
